Okay. So not just any comic book character. I like to be original and make up my own, but I'm not that great of a character sketch.

I have a few books like "Basic Drawing for the Begining Amaetur", and such things in that general area. But I feel as if I'm not learning from them.

So, what is the best way to learn how to be a great artist...without taking any classes?

OK, so my school gives everyone English projects to do over the summer and one of my projects is to make a 10 Page Graphic Novel about a struggle in middle school life.

It has to have a problem and a solution.
I have already come up with 13 ideas but NONE of them are able to last 10 pages :(

oh and i cant draw people very well, and its a whole lot more fun for me to draw cartoon monsters and dinosaurs (they dont look realistic).
So keep it in mind that i wont make a comic using People cuz part of the grade is on how well you draw (i dont like that part since this is for english not art!).
